I AM NO GOOD FOR YOU
Sunday evening I felt the beginnings of a cold or flu or Hanta Virus coming on. I can usually tell because my ears will get hot and itchy. Sure enough, by the time I went to bed I was feeling achy. Now this week is kind of busy. I can't miss work, because they're Nazis. This weekend is the school musical Mark has been co-directing. I don't want to miss it or spread my contagion. So health matters! I went to the store first thing yesterday to procure the needed supplies. I came home with coca-cola, cough medicine, and a couple cans of ravioli. Because let's face it. When you really can't taste anything, there is something good to be said about the mushy pasta/sauce vegetable protein disguised with meat flavoring that really sounds good. I forgot the juice... DAMN!
You may or may not be surprised how effect a nice cold coke is at eating away any junk in your throat. Seriously... it's the new Magic Mouthwash.
So I get home and take a dose of the cough syrup when I notice two startling things on the box.
Non-drowsy? ALCOHOL-FREE?!! WTF?! I was looking forward to a syrupy induced mental haze brought down upon me by the makers of Robutussin. I was sadly disappointed.
To help induce the feeling I was looking for I watched this video endlessly. It's my new favorite song of the moment.

I AM... I AM... I AM SUPER MAN
I'm not really a healthy person. I know this. I accept this. Most times I really don't care. Am I in the best shape? No. I've tried... i wouldn't even call the diets because it wasn't an attempt to lose weight or be healthier. It was more just to see if I could do it. I'm stubborn like that. Someone says I can't do something I have a hard time not wanting to try, just to prove them wrong.
I tried doing the no carb thing. I last a week. That's rough.
I gave up all soda for a month. That was easier than I thought. I didn't miss the soda so much as I did the carbonation. I missed the fizz.
But I've got something that I feel ok about giving up and not really worried about missing. I'm giving up super sizing.
When I worked at McDonald's, during college, there were still such a thing as a 16 oz small drink. In fact, most places had a standard set of sizes; 16, 21, and 32 ounces. If a fast food menu even still offers three sizes the smallest is hardly small. BK and McDonald's being the biggest offenders of it. Taco Bell isn't much better. All combos come with a 32 oz drink.
Now this isn't to say that I don't drink soda other than when I go out for fast food. Because I do. But I've typically subscribed to the theory that for some people, it's how much more than what you eat. I know this isn't across the board. I feel it is true for me. So I'm giving up super sizing.
Big deal? Well maybe... if you figure that extra patty or handful of fries or few ounces of soda add up to at least 100 calories and I'm not eating them. Well that's some quick math to show how many calories dropping.
Baby steps. And maybe once the weather gets warmer I'll start going out for walks/jogs again.

CATCH MY DISEASE
Is there a new threat? Or just the same old one that people had been ignoring. A New ‘Gay Disease’? Considering a contestant on Project Runway recently left because of a staph infection, this was pretty timely.

WE ARE THE WORLD
I'm not sure how I feel about this article. There is a part of me that understands that there is a lot of money putting put into AIDS research, especially in a country where childhood are dying of hunger. So there are going to be people who say that the money should be better spent. Yet part of me wonder why funding should be cut based on a statistically larger problem.
I understand the limits of a budget. I understand that money has to come from somewhere. Rob Peter to pay Paul. Yet to think that AIDS research might lose funding and as a result AIDS-related deaths jump in numbers, is kind of saddening.
Like I said... I don't have much to say about it. I'm not sure how I feel, but I wanted to toss it out there.

CAN YOU HEAR THEM TALKIN' BOUT US
It's common to excuse yourself after a burp or sneeze. Sometimes even a hacking cough will prompt acknowledgement of the interruptive sound. I should know. I have a noisy body.
My body is constantly making noises that I'm not sure if anyone else can hear. When I have a lot of congestion or a head cold my ears will depressurize. When I drink a carbonated beverage my throat gurgles. My stomach digests loudly. My body is always rumbling with some noise or another.
In the course of an average day most people wouldn't notice the sounds their body makes because of other noises going on around them. Yet, in a small office, shared by three people, the noises might as well be cymbal crashes and canons firing in the 1812 Overture.
I find myself saying "excuse me" a lot. Finally a coworker asked what I was excusing. She never heard me burp. She didn't think I was farting in the office. What was I excusing? I explained my noise body and how I wasn't sure what anyone 'outside my head' was able to hear.
Cute Teacher and I are comfortable enough around each other that I don't think he'd be wigged out by a little gas (in one form or another). But when we are sitting on the couch and my stomach decides to make itself known. Nothing flatulent, mind you. Just 'normal' body noises for me. I'm the noisiest person I know.
If I don't set my alarm, it is usually my stomach growling that wakes me up eventually. It is a cruel master. It demands food when it demands it.
Shhh! I bet you can hear my body growling for a donut right now.

I'm a 30-something student of human nature. A music-lovin', groove-shakin', laugh-inducin', dish-cookin', gossip-slingin', type of guy. This is my diary of sorts...
